Siterwell Electronics has announced its first formal collaboration with the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association (NCOAA), joining forces during Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month to strengthen home-safety protection for vulnerable families across Michigan. As part of the initiative, Siterwell is donating 200 hardwired, interconnected smoke and carbon monoxide combo detectors, along with a $6,000 contribution to support NCOAA’s education and community outreach programs.
Working in coordination with local Michigan fire-service partners, the initiative will help ensure that life-saving alarms reach households that lack functioning, up-to-date smoke and CO protection.

Addressing a Persistent, Preventable Threat
Carbon monoxide (CO) remains one of the most dangerous and under-recognized hazards in American homes. According to NCOAA, “more than 100,000 people visit an emergency room and some 1,200 die each year” in the U.S. because of CO exposure.
Michigan faces recurring safety challenges as well, especially during the winter months when heating systems run more frequently. State incident data shows that 96 Michiganders died in 92 fatal fires in 2024, and nearly half of those homes were reported to have no working smoke or CO alarms.
The partnership between Siterwell and NCOAA addresses both threats by expanding access to modern, interconnected smoke and CO alarms—devices designed to improve early-warning capability during emergencies.
A Shared Commitment to Community Safety
The collaboration focuses on delivering practical support where it’s needed most. NCOAA will work with local fire-service partners and community organizations to identify at-risk households and distribute the donated alarms. Siterwell’s donation will further bolster NCOAA’s outreach efforts, funding education campaigns, safety resources, and awareness programs throughout Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month.
“We are proud to support NCOAA’s mission and to work alongside local fire-service partners to strengthen home safety in Michigan,” a Siterwell spokesperson said. “Carbon monoxide incidents and fire risks are preventable, and expanding access to reliable, interconnected alarms is a meaningful step toward protecting families.”

A Model for Future Collaboration
This initiative marks the beginning of Siterwell’s partnership with the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association. While this collaboration is focused on Michigan, both organizations will continue to look for meaningful ways to support CO and fire-safety awareness in the communities they serve. Potential future efforts may involve expanded outreach, education programs, or additional safety-support initiatives as opportunities arise.
As Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month highlights each year, every household benefits from working smoke and CO alarms—and ensuring that vulnerable families have access to reliable protection remains an urgent priority.
