FAQ
General Questions
Cooking fumes, steam, dust, and insects can all cause false alarms in smoke detectors. Car exhaust or certain chemicals can cause false alarms in carbon monoxide detectors. Our products use smart algorithms to minimize false alarms, but we still recommend installing them in a reasonable location to avoid interference.
Using advanced photoelectric sensing technology, they can effectively detect smoke particles from both slow smoldering and fast-flaming fires, including common materials like wood, paper, fabric, and plastic. Note: Photoelectric sensors may respond slightly slower to black smoke (e.g., from polyurethane foam burning). It is recommended to install them in bedrooms, hallways, and use them in conjunction with CO alarms.
We recommend testing the alarm function monthly according to the user manual. Additionally, you should clean dust from the alarm casing monthly to maintain sensor sensitivity.
10-year sealed lithium battery modelsdo not need battery replacement. Replace the entire unit at the end of its life (10 years).
Replaceable battery modelsuse 2 AA batteries. We recommend replacing them annually, or immediately when the alarm chirps (once per minute) indicating low battery.
Please refer to the user manual for troubleshooting steps and solutions, or refer to our guide videos.
For typical homes, photoelectric is generally more stable and better at detecting smoldering fires. Ionization is very sensitive to small particles but is more prone to false alarms from cooking fumes.
It's the designed operational life, not a guarantee it will never chirp for low power. Environmental factors like temperature and humidity can affect lifespan.
Standard smoke alarms are not suitable for kitchens. Grease, cooking fumes, and steam can easily trigger them. Consider installing a heat alarm instead in kitchen areas.
If the alarm sounds continuously AND your home uses fuel-burning appliances (furnace, water heater, fireplace, stove), immediately ventilate the area (open doors/windows), evacuate everyone, and call for help from outside.
•Low Battery Chirp:One chirp per minute. Replace batteries (for replaceable models).
•Malfunction/End-of-Life Chirp:One chirp every 30-40 seconds. May indicate sensor fault or end of unit life. Consult manual or contact support.
•Dust Accumulation:Try gently cleaning the alarm (vacuum or dust).
Installation & Hardware Issues
Smoke Detector:Must be installed in the center of the ceiling or on a wall within 30cm (12 inches) of the ceiling. Keep at least 30cm away from walls, light fixtures to avoid dead air pockets.
Carbon Monoxide Detector:Recommended to install on a wall about 1.5 meters (5 feet) above the floor (breathing height), 3-5 meters (10-15 feet) away from combustion appliances (like gas stoves). Do not install near windows or ventilation openings.
Areas to Avoid:Kitchen (fumes), Bathroom (steam), Garage (car exhaust), dusty areas, to prevent false alarms.
Yes, it's very simple! You will need:
• Electric drill (for making holes in ceiling/wall)
• Screwdriver
• Tape measure, pencil
• Included mounting bracket, wall anchors, and screws
Steps:1. Mark hole positions using the bracket; 2. Drill holes and insert anchors; 3. Secure the bracket with screws; 4. Twist the alarm onto the base until it locks into place (you'll hear a "click").
Please note: There are alignment marks (bumps or arrows) on the alarm base. Align the mark on the alarm with the mark on the base, then rotate until it clicks into place. If you feel significant resistance while twisting, check the alignment and do not force it.
It is not recommended to use an old base. Wiring definitions and mounting hole positions can differ between brands. Forcing it could lead to poor contact or malfunction. We recommend:
Step 1:Remove the old alarm and its base.
Step 2:Use the new Siterwell base provided.
Step 3:For hardwired models, correctly connect the wires (Line, Neutral, Interconnect) according to the new base's wiring diagram.
Strip length:It is recommended to strip about 10-12 mm of insulation from the wire end.
Connection:Insert the exposed copper wire into the terminal and tighten the screw securely. Ensure no stray copper strands are exposed.
Wiring Diagram:Refer to the product manual. Typically, Black is Line/Hot, White is Neutral, and Red is Interconnect.
Open area range:Up to 100 meters (328 feet).
Typical indoor range:In a standard home, the signal can penetrate 2-3 standard wood-frame or drywall walls. For larger homes, it's recommended to place alarms in central locations or consider adding a signal repeater (if available/supported).
Our systems support interconnecting up to 18 devices, including smoke alarms, CO alarms, and combination units. If any one alarm triggers, all interconnected devices will sound simultaneously.
Specific Products/Series
Yes, the GS525A has a built-in, non-replaceable sealed lithium battery. It is rigorously tested to support the detector's operation for 10 years (including monthly tests and occasional alarms). After 10 years, the detector will emit an "end-of-life" chirp, at which point the entire unit should be replaced.
We recommend using high-quality alkaline AA batteries. Please do not use rechargeable batteries, as their unstable voltage can affect performance. Replace the batteries once a year, or immediately when the low-battery chirp sounds.
Both are hardwired interconnect models, but:
•GS562A:Smoke detection only, hardwired (AC 120V).
•A8612B-6AR:Combination Smoke + Carbon Monoxide detection, hardwired with a built-in 10-year lithium battery backup. Offers dual protection.
No, you cannot. Wired interconnection requires a dedicated interconnect wire (often the red wire in a 3-conductor cable) physically connecting all alarms. If your house lacks this wiring, consider wireless interconnect models (like A8612B-4R). They require no new wiring and still achieve whole-home linked alarm activation.
Yes, especially for retrofits and older homes. Simply install them on the ceiling/wall like standalone units. No wiring is needed. They automatically interconnect via radio frequency, saving significant installation time and cost. Ideal for apartments or older homes where wiring is difficult.

Regulations & Compliance
Different products have different certifications, such as UL, ETL, California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) approval, etc.
Yes, they do. Siterwell wireless interconnected alarms are designed to meet modern building codes. When all alarms are interconnected, one trigger activates all units, fully complying with interconnection requirements in most US states. Furthermore, products are UL 217 and UL 2034 certified, ensuring compliance.
According to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, it is recommended to:
• Install one inside each bedroom.
• Install one in the hallway/area outside each sleeping area.
• Install at least one on every level of the home (including the basement).
• Install CO alarms near each sleeping area.
Other Common Questions
Our alarms can reach over 85 decibels during testing, which is loud enough to wake most sleeping people. If installed outside a bedroom, the sound will still be clearly audible. For individuals with hearing impairments, we recommend auxiliary alarms with strobe lights.
If it's a smoke alarm:Immediately follow your family's fire escape plan! Stay low to the ground, cover your mouth and nose with a wet cloth, and evacuate quickly. Do not stop to gather belongings. Call the fire department once you are safely outside.
If it's a carbon monoxide alarm:Immediately open doors and windows to ventilate, and evacuate everyone to fresh air outdoors. Call the gas company or fire department to investigate the source of CO. Do not re-enter the premises until the problem has been resolved.
